I just finished Clapton's autobiography last week. He would tell you Hendrix-works for me.

As far as SRV is concerned, Clapton compares him to Hendrix in the book, calling them both (and Buddy Guy) "pure guitarists" who play with their entire being-also works for me.

Page is a great guitar player, but not in the same league.

Beck? He's a journeyman musician, but from the Yardbirds to Beck, Bogart &Appice to Blow by Blow, he's never been particularly inventive or original.

Hendrix grew to become right into a greater advantageous guitarist. For goodness sakes, no longer in common terms did he instruct himself a thank you to play the guitar, he performed the guitar the different way up simply by fact he grew to become into left exceeded. on the different end of the spectrum, Eric Clapton is a greater advantageous singer. Clapton is rather gifted with a guitar and a greater advantageous songwriter. Hendrix grew to become into an notion for Clapton and different others.

It's like comparing oranges to hand grenades. Hendrix was a crazy rocker. Clapton was more folkish or soft rock. In skill i would say Hendrix since he played faster and sounded more impressive. But for mass appeal Clapton. During the time period he would have been more accepted than the newer sounds of Hendrix. In my opinion Hendrix will never be topped because of his performance when he lit his guitar on fire. If you went around on the street and asked people who they were i would bet money more people know Hendrix then Clapton.

Jimi Hendrix.

When he first came to the UK, Chas Chandler took him to see Cream, and arranged for Jimi to jam with them on stage. Eric was left absolutely astounded at Jimi's talent.

Hendrix was better technically. Clapton is a blues god, and He has better songs. So My vote goes to Slowhand

Rebuttal
There is no way Stevie Ray Vaughan deserves to be mentioned in the same sentence with Hendrix and Clapton.
Their only, and I mean ONLY two peers are Page and Beck...Period.

Both were great in their own right. But I'm gonna have to go with Eric Clapton.
Jeff Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughan are ever better.
