To me, a soul mate is someone who knows your thought trains almost as well as you do and who can even finish your sentences because you both think so much a like. Soul mates love and respect one another and are almost an extension of each other. I believe we can have more than one soul mate in life and they don't always have to be of the opposite sex.

A feeling is sometimes hard to define or describe to another being. When you encounter that "soul mate" it becomes a feeling of completeness within yourself.

A soul mate is some one who is perfectly happy reaffirming my ego without me having to bother with theirs. They are everything I want, without anything that challenges my concept of myself. And best of all, they are eternal, so I never have to worry about love or loneliness again... I guess I'm a little skeptical on the soul mate concept.

Soul mates are those people who have a deeper connection to you than just ordinary 'knowing' someone. A prime example is this: my brothers are my soul mates. Yes it is possible to have more than one. When I was a child, like most children, I had imaginary friends but, unlike most children, mine were real. Rick and Jack were always with me and we'd play and talk about have fun together and one time even, driving home from a long trip, they upset me so I made them get out of the car at a stop light and we left them. My parents thought that was my way of naturally getting rid of them but several weeks later they showed up again while I was playing in the bathtub and my excuse for there not being around was: it took them this long to walk back. When my eldest brother was born Rick mysteriously went away and I had my brother to play with and Jack but then, in kindergarden, when my other brother was born Jack left too. I don't ever remember being able to see them but I know they were there and I know that my brothers are as much a part of me spiritually as if they were actually physically attatched to me. I have meet others who I have felt similar attatchments to but nothing quite so deep as that. I've thought it could just be residual feelings from past lives but I know that with my brothers it is a deeper connection.
People talk about loving a soul mate and being with them but life mates and soul mates are not always the same thing. I know a guy, I meet him and immediatly felt like I'd known him my whole life. Something about him, though, made me think he wasn't to be trusted and I was right...we never quite dated though we tried but he never really got it right and for some reason I wasn't mad I felt like it was to be expected; like it always happens that way with him and if I can just be patient he'll get it right eventually.
Scores of souls cross our path and we may know them or we may not but soul mates are those souls we don't need to refresh ourselves of. Soul mates are known to us spiritually like a homecoming and an inner peace that cannot be found in anything or anyone else.

Forget looking for a "soul mate". Pay attention to your best friend instead.

My husband is my soul mate. He loves me more than he loves himself. He compromises with me, he works hard for me, he spends time with me. He loves me.
