A friend of mine is considering taking a night shift job (the only night job she could find that pays enough), this job would require her to drive 60 miles in total every night. She can't take a day job since no one would take care of her baby, daycare would just break even with her pay. Is this possible/doable if she still has to take care of her baby all day during the day?(Note that she is already exhausted at the end of the day) would you advise someone to do this?
Or do you have any other suggestions to give? At this point it's not possible for her to move at all to be closer to where the job is, but she desperately needs the money to pay her bills.

Anything is doable. I am curious though how your friend is going to get to work. With the expense of gas, car depreciation, and maintenance, a 60 mile round round trip commute could reasonably cost $20 a day.

The gallery here seems to think your being taken advantage of. I wonder??? You mention Female friend. I assume she shares some of the cost? You seem to have a good time. But the question is Would I drive the 60 miles for a friend? Most likely but the frequency would be more like weekly. The main cities for me are Lakeview = 55mi KlamathFalls = 100mi Redding = 150mi Susanville = 95mi Reno = 195mi Sacramento = 400mi.

Yes, it's doable but only for a short period of time. If she can find no other way to pay her bills, then it might be the only option.

Would I do it? Probably only until the bills were paid...

Would I recommend it? Definitely not. There's got to be a way that she can do some paid job at home while the baby is napping. She should notify her creditors of her intentions to pay what she owes over a longer period of time.

no that is not the answer. she will be so exausted. i tried to work 2 jobs while my son was in school in the day and then worked at night when he was asleep. did not work i read a story once about this same situation and the mom ended up getting into a deadly car crash on her way to work, because she fell asleep behind the wheel. so no this is not better for anyone. the child is better to have a mom, then loose her because she is trying to do too much. there has got to be help out there somewhere, goverment close friend teenage girl to babysit for acceptable wage. i hope it all turns out ok for her. gods blessings. kit-kat.

When is she going to sleep?

Driving when over-tired can lead to falling alseep at the wheel. The sort of accident that follows can be the worst sort, because the driver does not brake at all before the collision. I assume that's what you had in mind when you posted your question.

Moms are granted superpowers to do what they have to do to keep their babies fed, clothed and sheltered. It's possible. It's going to be super-tough, but it's possible.

She should keep her eyes open for other job possibilities, though, and see what she can do about keeping expenses down. Down the road, she might be able to move.

I wish her luck. I know this must be a heart-rending decision.
