I hope they don't because earthworms aerate the soil and keep it fresh and clean, and these fertilizers are bad for the environment.

we absolutely should all stop driving our cars. or at least have stricter emission regulations. and yes, i do believe that chemical crap will kill the worms. they are extremely sensitive to stuff like that. cover your lawn with 1/4 compost and use milky spore for the grubs. you'll be all set. if you need to kill broadleaf weeds, use corn gluten. i don't THINK it works on crabgrass...i can't remember.

If your so concerned about killing earthworms, then don't use any of the products. It's your god given right! And if they do kill the earthworms, there is other means of aerating the soil for a healthy turf. Carbon Monoxide is also bad for the environment. Perhaps we should all stop driving our cars as well!

Added Info: As a commercial turf applicator, I used many chems on my own lawn which included, but not limited to.. fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides and insecticides. After all these applications of supposed "bad" for the environment products, I still harvested "night crawlers" from my lawn on a weekly basis for my many weekend jaunts to the local fishing hole. I would bank to say, that the chemicals I applied didn't harm these "wiggling" wonders one bit. In fact, they seemed to thrive and breed readily, in my very healthy, non-diseased, weed free, thick and lush, deep green grass.
