By having strength within yourself. If you love yourself, you will not care what ignoramuses say to you. Those that make "stinging, condescending comments" are very unhappy themselves, didn't you realize that. They always try and bring others down, to try and make themselves feel better. Usually it is a person who has much more going for them, mainly you! Ignore them, smile, walk tall, have inner strength, knowing that you are O.K, and it is them that has the problem, not you.
Who cares what they say, it what you feel and think about yourself that counts. Look at them and feel sorry for them, that is the way I have always lived my life and I am happier for it.

I took a meditation course called "The Silva Method". One thing to do is to be very aware of what people say. If you made a stinging, condescending comment to the instructor she'd say "Oh !". What she shared with class members was she was taking their statement and multiplying it by "0" or zero and "canceling it".

You can also say there name, repeat there statement and say, I'm sorry you fell that way.

Realize that they are compensating for something if they have to behave this way.

When someone says something rude, condescending or demeaning, just look at them and say nothing.....
Remember that what people say says more about THEM than it does about you. People that have to be mean to others are poor, miserable creatures ,insecure, unhappy with themselves and the world around them. They are to be pitied and prayed for; and not taken seriously!!!

before responding count in your head , or if you have more time to respond write down what you want to say without thinking about it and keep it to yourself , then get together a mature response and say that to the person.

I know it can be hard, but simply walk away and say nothing. Sometimes, saying Nothing. Is the best and only way to go.

That depends on who it is and what they can really do to you. If the comments are all they can do, and they can't take your car or eliminate your housing situation, I'd say they are pretty powerless.

These other folks are right: ignore them.
