Dennis child suggested that the strongest feelings will win out.
If you live in a closed environment with people fearing and hating, you need to bring enthusiasm and hope to counter the fears around you. This is not always easy.
If the situation is life threatening you should get out, but most situations seem worse than they seem. In any case, really listening to others point of views and refusing to be dishonest about yours, is usually better than perpetuating bad situations.
Have faith that the situation can change. Whether the love you use is tough or gentle, love those who hate you, and trust that goodness and open mindedness can defeat cruelty narrow thinking. Do not be afraid to say no when you are being pushed about but equally don't be afraid of agreeing with your enemies some of the time.
------------------------
Many people live in families or communities with strong pressures to conform, and are not always open to outside influences, or different ideas. Many people can feel trapped in their situations and not see a way out. The temptation is to seek escape or revenge.
I was raised more by my grandmother than anyone else. She was not very open to disobedience, or even different ideas. She felt it was her obligation in life to point out the faults of others so they could improve themselves. Grandma could never understand why her sister's kids seemed to love her more, when her sister never worked as hard doing cooking and home duties.
Parents often do the wrong things for the right reasons, right things for wrong reasons and wrong things for wrong reasons.
I don't know what your situation is but despite all the wars waged in the name of God, I do believe that things can happen for reasons we can't see, and things can turn for the better when they seem the darkest. Even when things turn bad when we least expect it, getting frustrated seldom helps.
We never know if tomorrow our friends or family or ourselves may loose our lives or health. Many people I know have died unexpectedly. My grandmother recently lost much of her mental faculties after she was treated for a broken hip. It is not clear whether she would knows the difference when I visit her. I now visit her childhood friend. My grandmas friend had very few friends, as a child because her parents didn't allow her to mix much. The two girls kept in touch off and on and now they are both quite old. My grandma has nursing staff that treat her well and her youngest son lives close by to her. I find it difficult visiting my grandmother now, and her friend has noone else who visits her regularly.
I think the trick in life is to to be nice when you have nothing to loose, and to never perpetuate injustice. I do not try to solve every problem. I look for things I want to change and pick one at a time to work on. Sometimes they are injustices I see and sometimes they are selfish wants. I fund when I have something I can change for the better I don't get lost in depression where everything seems bad.

Pessimism could avoid you. Optimistic determinism. Pessimists see everyone else as stupidly positive but their perception is a mere reflection of their self, but positive. There is such a thing as insipid negativity.
The Will is positive, the Judgment is negative.

You can't. The conditioned ego identity has to be OBSERVED (cause and effect patterns) and its belief system questioned and dismantled before feelings, thoughts, perceptions and reactions will change. No matter how challenging, it is imperative to do so or reality cannot shift for the better.
