Organs are always a neat addition to a song. The best organ driven track by far is "Sister Ray" played by John Cale attached to a distorted guitar amp.

But "Roadrunner" by the Modern Lovers is close. And as much as I hate any solo that goes on for too long I absolutely love ever second of the organ solo in the middle of the song. It's just so interesting and fun sounding, one of my all-time favorite songs ever.

And keyboards seem to be used all wrong nowadays. Psychedelic 60's bands made much better use of them, it's a great instrument when used right.

Oh, and not only will I not resist the urge to say cowbell, I demand to hear more cowbell. Damn kids don't know what we're missing.

And whatever happened to that electric jug used by the 13th Floor Elevators? That was some trippy ****. When they made psychedelic without 700 hours of studio production. Good times.

But how about the human voice used as an instrument?

I'd say the harp. I can only ever remember hearing a handful of songs with it in them (although I can't rule out the possibility that I've missed them by not listening closely enough), but in the few songs I do remember, the instrument really stood out. One great example is "Motion Picture Soundtrack" by Radiohead. But the thing is, it wouldn't be as special if every other song out there featured harps.

The saxophone used to get a lot of play during the 80's but now seems like it has been largely forgotten about. Romeo Void did a good job with it.

MORE COWBELL! Damn, said it anyway.

I really do love the cowbell!

But I'm going to go with the trumpet - I miss brass instruments in rock.

Nah, not the cowbell. The Donnas still manage to use it and use it well. I would say the saxophone.

I was in a hard rock band once and this kid showed up with a tuba. We let him play as joke and the crowd just loved it. He was really horrible and had no sense of timing. But every song we played ended up with this long and low bwaaaahhh from his tuba and people just stood and applauded.
