editorial question? How long should it be?

How long should is a typical editorial...right now, i have got one that is five pages (double spaced) but I need to trim it down...

For what? A newspaper, newsletter, magazine? Is it a column or feature? I say 500-800 words.

I think yahoo should limit some of these excessively long answers. Most are just copies off something else and could just be referenced. The yahoo box is too short; perhaps 3X or 4X the yahoo box.
