I love meat but I don't think we have to eat meat.

Here is why:

1. Do most people even have what it takes to kill an animal themselves? No. I know I don't.

2. Do we eat meat raw? No. We cook it.

3. When we see an animal alive and well do we look at that as dinner? No. We cook it and use seasonings and sauces.

I do like meat but I don't think we are really omnivores. I think we developed over time to be able to eat meat.

Maybe the Vegetarians are on to something.

Very good arguement, but I find that eating meat is a neccesary evil, its natural and if animals had the ability to think like humans we would see a cat grilling a fish because it would make it taste better

Im sorry but your argument is flawed:

1.) If it was necessary for survival we would kill animals however we no longer find this the case and so most people don't kill animals.

2) Our immune systems have got worse over time and so we must cook food to kill pathogens. This has no relevance to whehter or not we should eat meat.

3) Yet again, times have changed (look at point 1).

Our bodies still have (and always have) been designed for eating meat. Look at our teeth we are clearly omnivores - notice that we have canines (unlike herbivores) and yet our molars aren't carnaissal (like carnivores). Also our digestive system seems suited to that of an omnivore.

We are born omnivores. Even monkeys eat meat sometimes. The vitamin B12 comes only from animal sources.

Humans evolved into hunters. We do not run fast, but we have sweat glands and are able to track an injured animal for days and finally kill it. That is how we differ from the apes and monkeys.

I think we're meant to be omnivores. We don't have the heavy-duty grinding teeth of animals that are herbivores. Why don't we kill animals to eat? In our culture we get our food from the store.
Why do we cook meat? We know how to use fire or stoves and we know that cooking meat makes it safer for us to eat. We also like the smell of meat cooking and the taste of cooked meat.

And, no, I am not a big fan of meat, but I think it helps us balance our diets.

Depends on what you mean by "supposed" to eat meat. Humans have very clearly evolved to be omnivores. Everything about our anatomy suggests this to be true.

However, if you are asking do we need to eat meat to be healthy. The answer for most of us is that we can easily have a healthy, balanced diet without meat. In fact, it would probably be healthier for most of us if we did not eat meat and much better for the environment.

Yes, of course. It's the benefit of being at the top of the food chain.

1) Yes, we do. However, we don't need to in modern times because we also have the technology to have it done commercially. Several years ago, people didn't give it a second thought and did what they had to do.

2) We can. But again, we've learned how to cook it. Steak Tartar is a delicious - raw - dish.

3) Don't know about you, but when I see a beautiful steer, I thank God for putting me at the top of you know where...

I agree, we aren't really "supposed" to eat them. It did take time for people to start the habit of eating meat. But what you stated isn't exactly true. #1, I think anything can drive humans to kill for food, especially if hunger strikes. For #2, there are people who eat raw meat, and before humans created fire, all they ate was raw meat. For #3, I am pretty sure that there are people who think of food when they see chickens or cows.

1: if you have to kill an animal to stay alive you would do it!

2: we cook it because, then it taste better and it's more clean from bacteria, (and it is a lot easyer to eat! trust me i know!)

3: when we look at a cow we see a COW, when we look at a piece of meat, then we look at A PIECE OF MEAT!!

Look into the mouth of a true herbivore and know you are a omnivore. What you think is immaterial to the truth.

I don't think we need as much as we do eat, but I think it is beneficial.

Some lecturer said once to my class that evolution of the australopithecine brain was helped along by Omega 3 that is found in fish.
