The norton protection indicates it need attention because the anti virus is not installed nor the firewall.

If I may,
Norton Products simply do not play well with other virus Software. They block them disrupt there operation and will lock your computer up.
To make a long story short.
If you intend to use SBC anti-virus security suite I recommend you delete any other Security by any other vendor.
SBC's is very good and very stable.
Here is where you get rid of Norton.
If you have the Original Install Disk use it to UnInstall Norton.
