...or so I'm told. (I've never been there, but would like to visit and possibly relocate, based on all the good things I've heard about it).

I know that Denver has a higher percentage of federal jobs than any other city except for Washington. This makes it all the more frustrating that it's difficult to relocate and get established there.

Because over the last 10 years or so most of the jobs were in the construction industry for new residential building. Now that Colorado pretty much leads the nation in foreclosures on homes all the construction companies have no work. There is already a surplus of homes in inventory that aren't selling so why take out a construction to build more new homes? So essentially those who have been filing for unemployment are most likely those who were in construction. Have you looked into the statistics from the labor department of who is filing for unemployment or are you just going by what you hear?

People like to live here, and many apply for the available jobs.

I sympathize. It took me a long time to find one here. Hang in there and keep trying.

There is plenty of work, just depends on what you're looking for. Go to Yahoo jobs
