3 weeks ago Rudd made a guarantee that Labor will not raise the GST when asked the question by a reporter!

Why would he resign. Labor would be gone the next election if he did that!

Here's an edited response I gave some time age."The ONLY way that GST can be increased is if ALL states in BOTH Lower and Upper Houses and the Federal Goverment in both Lower and Upper Houses approve a change. Can't imagine the states ( all of which are Labor ) voting for an increase in GST. Also, you may not know that every cent of GST raised goes to the states. Check with your local member if you like."
Hope this answers your question.

Why ask Rudd this why not ask Howard the question why did he lie to the Australian Parliment and Decieve Australia we had a refendum vote under Hewson when he was leader, but look what happen to that on the GST it was voted no right across Australia,

GST was in fact John Howards Plan for Australia and one way or another he was going to get his way about it, guess what he did with Meg Lees and having little GST via a backroom affair .

John Howard did not care as I said he was going to do it his way, now the rest of Australia are the tax collectors for him on paying and collecting his GST for him to reitre on after the Election.

tell ya what ... you ask can we guarantee that Labor will NOT increase the GST if they get elected ...

let's you and I travel back in time to a time long gone when our current PM said this :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qA9VdcMTx...
( see THAT's HIM .. and that's HIS mouth moving and HIS voice so I am not making this up)

You are asking questions that are intended to make people fear Labor.. to be afraid to vote them in .. on what THEY MIGHT do ( or MIGHT not) ..

well Howard has lied before .. and more than once .. and you want us to vote him back in... on the chance that we can't guarantee Rudd won't increase the GST ( that the Libs NEVER were EVER going to bring in??????)

I'd rather give Rudd a chance than give another chance to a proven Liar

Rudd has stated that he wont increase the GST, if he gets elected for the next PM. As for resigning I hope not. Im hoping you meant Johhny boy, cause I know he will resign and then Costello will take over. We need change but we also need one who is caring and I really dont think sly dog costello is the answer either.

Labor raising the GST is the most meaningless non-argument I have heard in this election! It would be just as valid for Kevin to guarentee that Vikings will not rape and pillage Alice Springs.

i dont know where you are getting your propaganda from. In recent years the federal government have been recieving massive amounts of money from taxes in other ways from our minimg boom and strong property growth etc....., why would the federal government in the next 3 years need to increase its GST especially considering that there is that much money there at the moment that they are pledging to give more of it back to us in tax cuts.
I think you are just coming up with unsubstanciated crap here, there is no reason why any government would increase the GST if their budget is in surplus as much as what ours is.

Over his dead body will Labor raise the GST

If they increase the GST, what would it matter if he resigns, we'll still have to pay?!?

I think you're fear mongering, with the surplus we've got there is no need to start raising taxes.

Cheers :-)

Just as well you didn't ask would Howard guarantee the same thing, because he lied and claimed that we would NEVER EVER have a GST - and he brought it in!
