I've always hated my first name and wanted to change it.
I recently met a coworker who is changing her first name.
How exactly do I go about doing this legally and officially?
BTW I want to change my name from Christine to Lenore.

In most places, it's just a matter a filing a few papers with your local court and maybe paying a fee.

However, if you change your name, then you may have to change your name on your id, and notify any businesses that you have a relationship with of the change as well.

Well I think Christine is a beautiful name, Lenore is beautiful just the same though. You have to get with a lawyer to get your name changed. Call around to a few and just ask if they handle name changes and how much they generally charge. They'll help you as much as they can...after all they want your money! Good luck!

you will have to go to court to get an official name change. It's a lot of trouble to go to just because you dont like your name. You will have to make changes on a lot of documents and records and will be plagued by mistakes for years. Why not just start using a nick name that you like better?

You can find most applications for name change online for your state. It will require filing cost and a court hearing. In some states you have to go through a lawyer to do it.
