If I go to the movies, someone has to sit right in front of me. If I am sitting at a bar, someone has to sit right next to me. When I park at the mall, I always park as far away as I can, but you guessed it, some one always parks right beside me.

Why?

1. When I say I park as far away as possible, I will actually park away from any other vehicles (no I do not have a new/very posh car).

2. I will always try to sit at the back of the movie theatre in the centre, if I can not get there then I will sit at the back but on the edge.

3. If I go to a bar alone, sometimes I like to just sit on my own and not have to talk to anyone, is there anything wrong with that?

But still people will park next to me, sit in fromt of me or sit next to me.

WHY?

I have noticed that also. It's especially annoying in the movie theatre and then it's usually someone a lot bigger or taller. It's like invading one's personal space. Perhaps it is linked to a pack mentality or instinct.

A lot of this is dependent on culture. Not all cultures have the same unwritten rules regarding personal space. It may also have to due with being in an urban environment where people simply get used to finding themselves in crowded spaces and aren't as aware of space issues.

they sit in front of you at the movies, because they assume that you sat there for a reason - maybe best view, best sound from that vantage point, or best angle, etc. They copied you. But, they sat in front of you because then it's you who can't see anymore, but they can. They didn't sit behind you for obvious reasons. They didnt sit next to you, because then they'd have to crawl over your legs and popcorn.

At the bar, they sit next to you because they don't want people to think they are drinking alone. When the bar gets crowded, then everyone is sitting next to eachother, cuz there's no choice.

If you park far away, people park next to you on purpose for a few different reasons. If you have a "nice" car and park away from people to protect it, you are inviting pricks who want to park next to your car to humiliate you and your snobbiness. If your car is a piece of **** and you park a long ways away, others will park next to it because they want to see if there is anything in your car worth stealing. They think your car might be abandoned and they will be back when it gets dark to clean you out good.

I find this particularly annoying on trains. I work early and so Im up at 3am. When I go to work on the train someone has sit next to me and talk, use their mobile or kick the seat when I'm trying to sleep. I think people are such selfish and inconsiderate.

That's an interesting question. It's like the exact opposite of bathroom psychology (I learned this in my psych class... like with urinals, if one guy is using one at the end, there's no way that another guy will come and use the one right next to him).

I don't think people are close to you but you are the one close to people. To solve this, you should avoid getting close to people by not going to places where there are people.
