Does anyone know this old tv series about a time traveller?

Question

The guy travels through times to fix what went wrong in that period of time. He's using a machine like a pocket watch, when the light turned red, that means something is wrong so he needs to fix the history. Until one day, he accidentally lost his book and met a smart boy who can help him with fixing the history.

Can anyone help me with with the title of that tv series?

PS: It is not quantum leap .. it is a very old tv series

It was Voyagers! Voyagers! starred Jon-Erik Hexum (Phineas Bogg, the adult) and Meeno Peluce (Jeffrey Jones, the boy ). The pocket watch thingie was the Omni. Jeffrey's dog got Phineas' Guidebook.

The show only lasted one year (20 episodes), probably because it was in the same time slot as 60 Minutes.

The only one I can think of is Dr. Who.. the original.. There was one called Sliders.. but that's dimensional..

I seem to recall a show called My secret identity, .. but I don't recall much about it..

although the guy losing his book sounds like a different show altoghether.. that sounds like The Greatest American Hero..
where a guy finds a suit that gives him superhuman powers.. but he loses the instructions.. so he finds someone to try and help him learn to use them
