Let's open this with a correction of your assertion. The "West Bank" is not "Occupied Lands". Since that area has never been a recognized part of any country since Britain received control of the Palestine Mandate following WW I, it cannot be considered any more "Occupied" than your own home. There has never, repeat, never, been an independent Arab or Moslim country in any part of what became portion of the Palestine Mandate west of the Jordan River. Prior to WW I, it was a Provence of the Ottoman Empire (the person who defeated the Crusaders for the final time was Souleman the Magnificent of Turkey). Before that, it was Jewish territory occupied by the Roman Empire. Before that, it was the Kingdom of Israel.

Another insight. Since Hamas does not recognize Israel's right to exist in any way, shape, manner, or form, there is no reason for Israel to recognize it. Would you recognize the right of any organization to murder you and your family? That is the fate decreed in Arabic by Hamas for all Jews in Israel while claiming in English to want peace.

Ask your coworker why the Christian population in Bethlehem has dwindled form 80 percent to less than 20 percent once control passed to the Moslims. Why has unemployment in the Gaza strip gone from under 20 % under Israeli "occupation" to close to 85% under Hamas "democratic" rule?
