Whenever I try to hold or pet my leopard gecko he runs into his hiding house. Is there a certain way to pick him up or pet him that would be better? I got him about 5 days ago. Thanks

He needs a couple of weeks to get used to his new home and to feel secure. It is very scary for small animals in a new environment--they don't know what dangers are around and have to learn they are in a safe place. After that, start off with slow, easy, short handling times and don't expect too much too fast. Some leos learn to tolerate handling much more than others.
