You might be able to get it to eat a mealworm, but it would probably get sick and die if that's all it's eating. I have a banded cali king. She eats frozen/thawed mice. If you have a petco near you, they should have the frozen pinky mice available for like $2 each, and this is what you should thaw out and feed your snake. If you don't live near a petco, then call around to the local pet stores and make sure that they will have a supply of these frozen pinky mice available for you. If not and you still really want the snake, try to find somewhere online that you can order them in bulk, but be prepared for a freezer full of mice. Also the shipping can be a bit high since they have to stay frozen the whole time. Once the snake gets bigger it can eat bigger mice, but at first you will need the pinkies. Mice are the only diet for a captive king snake that will provide it complete nutrition without making it sick or getting it a vitamin deficiency.
Pretty much, it needs mice, and if you are not going to feed it mice don't get it. Also if you are feeding it mice, that can make up the entire diet. No need trying to feed it other stuff; just mice will do.

There are several great books out about Kingsnakes and you should get on before you buy a kingsnake. You can find these books in pet stores. They are called "king"snakes because they other eat other snakes, but the ones produced in captivity have all been raised on mice and rats so that is what they eat. They do not eat mealworms nor other insects.

All colubrids like kingsnakes routinely eat rodents. Kings are also snake eaters. As babies they eat lizards and other snakes. They don't eat meal worms. You'll end up killing the snake feeding them inappropriate food. You can order frozen mice online at various places. Many petstores also carry frozen mice. Petco is not the only one. If they sell reptiles, they'll probably carry frozen feeder mice as well.

NO. They are rodent eaters. Best is to buy frozen rodents and thaw properly. If you can't feed rodents, don't get a snake! Do lots of research please before getting a snake so you know what to provide for it.
