the drive train is basically the same. the front end dimensions are different. the foot controls are much different; handle bars are different. this makes the seating position different. The floor boards on the Fatboy and the wider handlebars,put you in a more upright seating position then the Custom. Both bikes have the softail frame,but usually a taller rider will be more comfortable with the forward foot controls on the Custom. I prefer the fatter 16 inch front tire on the fat boy,over the thinner 21 inch on the Custom.Some people complain about the solid front wheel on the fatboy in cross winds.

Different front end. The Custom uses the FX (skinny) front forks and the the Fat Boy uses FL (big, thick touring type) front forks. The remaining differences are cosmetic.

the fat boy is bigger if your trying to fig out what one to get go with the fat boy
