The ego can definitely be extinguished fast, if you put to much of a belief that you are right on the line, and you find out otherwise. Your ego is safe if you realize, that you will be wrong a certain amount of the time, and are willing to accept this fact, and go back to the drawing board, and try to do a little better next time.

My Flaming ego would extinguish when, I look at the Faces of my Grand-kids, and want to protect them from anyone or anything.

Wow good question I would have to say when I can put myself aside and listen to others without judgement as a friend and just be supportive for them and their troubles just be there for them. Also when another acts in a weird way in any given situation where I feel attacked or undermined in that before I react and get angry and want to hurt the other through my own actions I take a step back and ask them WHY?WHY did they act the way they did!! Just recently I had a cousin of mine wanting to protect me with a Guy that I know for 7 years that is a BLAH hahaha and she was proctective over me in the sense that I was above him and I should not even bother hehehe so before I got mad I asked why she acted the way she did in front of him :))))
I think we should all have healthy egos where say we like another but they are not worthy of us because of who they are the choice is we can make the choice to get involved we must believe what people SHOW you about who they are! Make no attempt to fix them believe what you see and choose whether or not we will be involved with them. Healthy ego know this but as you say a flaming one always gets into trouble and know this about many people with big egos who in the end destroy their love relationships and their careers because of it :)))

Meditation is good...every morning and then vigilance throughout the day.
But the death of someone very close to me blew my ego away for a while, it did come back gradually but with alot more humility. Obviously I don't recommend this method but as much as I suffered during this time the world around me seemed far more beautiful whilst my ego wasn't passing judgement on it.

I'm not egoistic at all;.. but to answer your good question: One with a flaming ego should be presented with a 'picture' of an "all burnt self", letting him realize that over-lighting his self esteem can put him into 'ashes' instead. Sometimes, one needs to taste himself through others of his kind so that he would know how unpalatable and disgusting a 'charcoaled ego' is.

Do you mean to imply that all egos "flame"? They do if they are "egotistical." They do not if they are "egoistical." I am an egoist. Why would I want my rational ego extinguished?

I usually keep an eye on the toaster, so I haven't had an ego waffle catch fire yet. But if it ever happens, I'll urinate on it. Then eat it.
