Because of misinformation. Some people believe that they would get loose and breed in the wild, thus endangering native animals. This is false. Ferrets are domesticated animals and will die in the wild. There are no domestic wild packs of ferrets in any of the othe states that allow ferrets! The thought is ridiculous.

I am just going to guess.... I was in Hawaii twice in the last year. They have ferrel ferrets everywhere. I think (years ago) they were brought in to control something else that was overpopulated and now the ferrets are everywhere. They are like squirrels & chipmunks are in the mid-west.

I think the reason they are illegal is because the would rapidly multiple in California and become a major problem.

Because we are legislated to death here.
The fear is that 2 pet ferrets will get loose in the wild and start a huge ferret colony and destroy crops and kill indigenous wildlife.
There are also species of parrots that are illegal in California for the same reason.
Feel free to go to Arizona and smuggle one back.

i dobnt know but hedgehogs are illegal in GA and i really want one!
