My brother and his wife have filed for divorce after 23 years of marriage, two teenage daughters. The x-wife has started dating as soon as she filed papers. Is this good for the girls? My brother doesnt seem to think so. He says he wants to wait. He doesnt want to cause anymore damage than what there already is. Is there a set time limit on this kind of thing or what? What's the protocal?

In many cases the marriage is over LONG before papers are filed and attorneys are hired (in my case as well). Since my husband was already "dating" and our kids were teens, I made a special effort NOT to, and to focus on starting over and settings goals.

It's really a personal choice...some even waiting til the big D is final ( in my case 7 years, so NO WAY there!!) LOL

I dont think there is any protocol I know people that have started dating while they were still only seperated. It just depends on the person. Both your borther and his ex-wife are doing what they feel they need to do. It may or may not be good for their daughters it just depends on how well the except the fact their parents are no longer married. Each one may even react a different way to it. Divorce is tough for any kids no matter how old they are.

My ex-husband began dating while we were married - hence the divorce- a week after I packed up and left she moved in- 2 months later I started dating and I was married in a year (still married too)

We didn't have children together, but the parents should be respectful of the children and not have bf/gf running through the house at all times- they should make sure they will be a serious relationship and then introduce them to the children

It's truly an individual thing. Some people need that 'other half' to feel worthy. I don't think there is an certain time to wait.
