Is this even a question?? Of course Dustin deserves it more than he does. Ellsbury had how many At-bats?? And Dustin had how many?? Not even close. Next year Ellsbury will be RoY.
Dustin Pedroia-
AB --> 520
BA --> .317
Jacoby Ellsbury:
AB --> 116
BA --> .353
Definetly Dustin Pedroia. Jacoby is not even eligible for RoY this year.

Pedroia had a larger body of work. It's very hard for a player to come up and win in just a months time. Many votes were probably in before Elsbury had 20 games under his belt. Pedroia this season. Elsbury next season. A rookie is eligible after 1 ab. Elsbury could be one of the rare players that will receive votes in 2 different seasons. Mike Jefferies is the only player I know who received ROY consideration 2 different seasons.
1988 6 Gregg Jefferies NYM 0 3 120 0.02 | 109 35 6 .321 .960 5|
1989 3 Gregg Jefferies NYM 0 18 120 0.15 | 508 131 12 .258 .706 21

Ellsbury easily AL ROTY 2008.
He only played 1/4 a season so shouldn't be 2007, Pedroia deserves 2007 award!
As a Red Sox fan I'm very excited for the years to come with these two guys getting things going! They were killers in Game 3 of World Series!

Pedroia played the entire year, he deserves it more. However, I from what i saw of Ellsbury, I think he's going to be better and he's become tied for my favorite player with big papi. both these guys are gonna have great careers and it doesn't even matter to me if the sox land Johan Santana: I'm against it if we have to trade Ellsbury, Bucholz, or Pedroia. I'm serious. Even though Beckett is 27 and was by far baseball's best pitcher this year, it still kind of hurts to see Henley Ramirez be the future hall of fame player everyone knew he was going to be.

I really wish Ellsbury did, but you have to look at the facts. Ellsbury only came up when the rosters expanded in September, and Pedroia played the entire year. If Ellsbury played the entire year I think he would of got it. Either way they are both fine young athletes who will both end up having great careers.

As Chipmaker notes, Ellsbury is perfectly eligible to win the ROY this year. Willie McCovey won it in 1959 with just 192 at bats.
But Ellsbury is still eligible next year -- a rookie is defined as someone with less that 130 AB in the majors, and Ellsbury wound up with 127 total plate appearances in the regular season.
Jeremy Guthrie, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Hideki Okajima, and Brian Bannister are the other candidates.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Ellsbury, he came through at the end and no one was expecting it, he did a lot for us, but he was just there at the end. Pedroia had an AMAZING season pretty much from the start, I think April was a little rough, but he was just warming up. He did great through the whole thing, he definitely deserved it. Ellsbury though.. I think as long as he starts next year in center for us, and he played like he did this year, he'll be getting that honor next year!

I think next year Ellsbury is still considered a rookie anyway, so next years all him. But this year he wasnt with the team long enough yet anyway to even be considered my opinion

Ellsbury is not eligable for Rookie of the Year because he didn't play enough games. He will probably be the winner next year.
Pedroia will win Rookie of the Year this year.

Ellsbury is completely eligible for the 2007 AL ROY Award.
However, he will also be eligible next season (presuming he plays), since his rookie eligibility has not yet expired. He doesn't yet have more than 130 total at-bats in his major league career. That said, I don't expect him to receive more than perhaps one token, third-place vote.
All of you who got this wrong can either (a) hang your heads in shame, (b) post mea culpas, or (c) edit your posts to remove and/or correct such crass mistakes.
