What is the legal age to date an adult?

My mother told me befor it was 13 if you give consent...
I dont think so thought,for both us and canada please!

In The US it's 18. Otherwise it's called statutory rape. You can be emancipated at 16, but that requires both of your parents to sign a form stating that you're responcible for yourself.

legal age varies by state to state and generally for the entire area of Canada, but I believe two provinces have local laws. One can not date a person who is more than two years older than you are if that dating ritual you are planning will involve intimacy. To go out socially one can be any age. But to have intimacy which includes kissing and touching, then the other person can not be more than two years older than you are except i the rare instance where seniors in high school (17) can probably get away with seeing someone who is 14, but that might not be allowed in your area. There are really good reasons for this. It is assumed that you are only as mature as your age. And lets face it, you are a child at 13. Now, the 13 age you were told is that age that in many places allows a parent to give consent for you to marry - a much different thing than dating. Unfortunately there are places in the world where education opportunities end at 13. A 13 year old is considered a drain on their parents. Some 13 year olds are big enough to be working and doing the things adults do - namely start families and provide for the betterment of the rest of the family. See in these socieities people tend to stay living in the same place maybe even in the same home, so you will have grandparents, parents children who have babies all living in the same place, and everyone has to work to make it work. Well, at 13 you are not ready to get married. so forget about dating that 18 or 19 year old. He is ready to settle down with one woman and start a family in many places. Follow the rule of thumb, if he is more than two years older than you are, forget the idea of getting involve. Good luck
