When an artist mimes their songs on tv, are they justified in calling themselves singers?

I understand if they have a cold, or a sore throat, in which case they should just admit it! But, the programmes describe them as 'singing LIVE tonight', when they are blatently just miming their song. Yes, they are 'alive', but they are just opening and closing their mouths! What do you think? : )

Well, if they are not actually singing then, they can't be singers...I mean you have to actually sing to qualify for that don't you? My answer would be no, they are not artists.

Miming isn't singing!

Then again, most of today's popular genre "artists" can't sing in the true sense of the word. They make money out of gullible people who purchase recordings of the drivel they put on CD.

you might aswell have just stayed at home and listened to the CD than to pay so much money to see them 'live'!!!

however if the 'singer/s' are cr@p to begin with then maybe they're better off miming...i.e. girls aloud!!! they cant sing anything properly they probably need digital enhancing on their CD coz their sh*t!!

I think, that these artists should at least do something for the vast amounts of cash that they're receiving. They should probably enjoy it as well instead of miming their songs.

i would be livid if i had payed to see someone live and they mimed ..its the paying public that keeps them in in the public eye,and pays there wages so they should at least give us what we want ... :)
