When it is in the evening, people use PM for 12-hour time i.e: after 12:00. And AM is used for the morning i.e: 14/00:00(midnight). But what does AM and PM stand for?

Ante and Post meridian.

For information, 12 noon is neither AM nor PM, similarly for midnight.

Anybody who uses the term 12 AM or 12 PM is quite incorrect until one whole minute has elapsed and the time becomes 12:01 AM (morning) and 12:01 PM (afternoon).

“AM” stands for the Latin phrase Ante Meridiem —which means “before noon”—and “PM” stands for Post Meridiem : “after noon.” Although digital clocks routinely label noon “12:00 PM” you should avoid this expression not only because it is incorrect, but because many people will imagine you are talking about midnight instead. The same goes for “12:00 AM.” Just say or write “noon” or “midnight” when you mean those precise times.

In timekeeping:

Ante Meridiem, in 12-hour clock notation, Latin for "before noon"
Anno Mundi, a Calendar era counting from the creation of the world
Anno Martyrum, used in the Coptic calendar

Post meridiem (also written P.M. and p.m.), Latin for "after noon" - this is used to disambiguate hours of the day, in the 12-hour clock system
