i have a 97 audi A4 and i hear a knocking sound everytime i hit a bump or a pot hole!!! i took it to a mechanic and he said it was the lower rear ball joint,i bought the part and had someone put it in but it persisted,now i dont have the slightest idea where the knocking sound is coming from, has anybody out there had a similar problem,can somebody help?? any suggestions or possible solutions

It could be anything from a ball joint to a shock......

Take it to a different machanic

Struts (Front) Shocks (Rear) Loose and/or Mounting Bushings Bad! With a 97 The Springs Could be Bad & Ceck the "A" Frame Bushings! Good Alignment Shop can, they do this all day!

to me being a mechanic it definatly sounds like your front drive shaft or both sides quite cheap to buy and relatively easy to fit main tool you need is a ball joint splitter email if need to no anymore hope this helps.
