The more education the more money you get. If you want to be a principal you would want more management classes. A BS in early childhood education and a masters in reading with enough credits for a doctorate got my SIL the most she could earn in her school, if she got a doctorate they wouldn't hire her because her pay would be outside the budget.

The truth is that there is no career advancement in elementary. Most elementary educators continue with their education to better themselves and the students that they serve. It is true, however, that the higher your level of education the more money you receive and as far as the Ph.D. goes, it all depends on the school district and what they are willing to pay to have highly qualified teachers. My school district offers to pay for your Master's as long as you agree to teach in your current school for 3 years after-wards.

So get your education because all great educators realize that one never stops learning and if your aspirations are to be in administration the advanced degree will certainly not hurt. Besides if it is the job of your dreams, salary is always negotiable.
