The answer to your question is very simple. Its not ALL americans who want the most powerful government in the world, its the power crazed politicians we elect, that want the most powerful government in the world. And since our government is run by big business, and the most wealthy in America, naturally, THEY want to pay as little as possible in taxes. When the average American gets a TAX CUT in comparison to the wealthy, the amounts to the common man is dwarfed in comparison to the amount the wealthy receive. The average American wants his country to be strong and he wishes to be able to provide for his family and himself, and be able to save so he can pay his own way in the future. America is going into a state of disrepair with our infrastructure, due to the greed of the rich, the politicians who want to be reelected, and big business, who only promotes itself. When a levy breaks, or a bridge falls down, or some hills catch fire and destroy alot of homes, then the attention brings out all the hypocrites to PLAY to it. VERY SAD!! Our government is driven by power and money, not for the benefit of its citizens...

The american government remind me of ancient race of long ago when they tried to domiate a then world an only found that in time they all disapeared an no trace can be found today even the place where they lived,With most countries even today, have US companies in their countries,Fuel Station, they pay for fuel and guess where it goes back in to US and not in their country,

So their fuel tax that they pay is proping up the US economy you see the US pay for fuel per Gallon 1= Gal = US4.5 * a litre times in a Local currency and that is higher price than the US pay. so in that regard that one reason that they don't like to pay a higher tax.

The country most Americans want is a body with a thousand heads. It doesn't work. A strong centralized government is needed to control all the functions of the body. You need a enough government to do the job, and in the case of the U.S.... that requires a sizable government.

You have a faulty premise. We dont want to have a large government just a powerful military that can both defend our nation and lend aid to help other peoples who most likely live in oppression when necessary. Historically we havent believed in a cradle to grave nanny state but in good old fashion hard work and ingenuity. Independence isnt being dependent upon the government to control every aspect of your life

We don't want the most powerful government, we want the most powerful country. Smaller gov, less taxes equal stronger country.

Because the US government is controlled by the very wealthy. Other than the military to protect their assets overseas and an infrastructure to move assets domestically, what do they need a government for?

Think about it.

The only way to stay the most powerful gvt in the world is to ensure the economy stays strong as well. Taxing your people and forcing them to become dependant on the gvt has never proven to be a succesful economic strategy.
