Hello.

Gandalf didn't actually give it to him. Gandalf never wanted to touch it. After Biblo's Eleventyfirst birthday party, he went back to Bagsend and Gandalf had him put it on the mantle. Bilbo left for Rivendale. When Frodo came home after the party was over, Gandalf told him where it was and had him put it in an envelope and told him to hide it. Gandalf didn't want to touch it because he had an idea of what the ring might be and didn't want the power of the ring to destroy him the way it had everyone else that had touched it (with the possible exception of Bilbo).

Hope that helps you.

Sam is unquestionably *a* hero of the trilogy yet he's not *the* hero as a results of fact he's an incomplete character. Samwise and Gollum the two signify the two halves of Frodo's character without the two of which Frodo could be no longer able to end his quest. and don't ignore that, interior the tip, it became actual Gollum who saved center Earth. Frodo, on the crack of Mount Doom, refused to throw the hoop into the fire, claiming the hoop for himself, and it became Gollum, by using his greed, who bit the hoop from Frodo's hand and fell with it into the volcano on an identical time as Sam stood helplessly via, no longer able to act. So, i think, if anybody is the genuine hero of the books, it may would desire to be Gollum :)
