I have witnessed a lot of bullying and teasing going on in today's high schools. Why do some high school students bully, tease or socially exclude other classmates if these classmates did nothing to hurt them? People are different with different interests but it's no reason to be mean to them. Some students get teased or excluded if they are smart/get good grades, if they don't like sports, if they don't have "cool" clothes, if they are overweight, if they don't smoke or drink, or if their personality and interests don't fit in the mainstream. Many times it is the nice kids who did nothing wrong to anyone that get teased. For previous bullies out there or if you knew a bully, why do they bully classmates that did nothing wrong to them?

Bullies have always existed... just take a look at history.

I think that part of the reason people bully is because it may helop the bully feel more important than the person they are teasing, more "in control" of what's going on, more powerful, or better than other people. I think bringing down others helps bring their self-confidence up. Some people might bully because they themselves have a terrible life or problems, which makes them think that "If I have to go through this, other people should have to. It's not fair that I have to do it, why do other people deserve to be happy when I am not?", so they take out their emotions and frustrations on other people.

Also, people tend to be afraid or hateful of what is different than them (again, take a look at history... slavery, [some] wars, racism, etc are all an example of this). This could be a contributing factor to why certain individuals are singled out; because they are different from other students.

some kids just think that they are better than other "lower" kids. that may be true, but that kid is probably better than the bully at something else. everyone has different talents and qualities. Some times when bullies see low self esteem, they jump on that and attack it until it breaks the person down. I'm a high school junior and i don't drink or smoke or do anything bad, i am a good B+ average student, never gets in trouble, am very tall and excel in sports. I didn't let others pick on me because i try to act confident and be friendly to people. Whenever i see bullying i usually try and stop it because i want my school to be a safe environment for not only myself, but for my peers. If bullies would just get bullied one time they would understand why it is wrong to bully and become a better person. Maybe they need counseling, or they were treated/are being treated poorly sometime in their life and they feel the need to take it out on someone 'smaller' or different than them. I am not a bully but i witness it every day at school, and i really do think it is a problem and making those who are being bullied feel like they are going to a war zone every day.

Bullying is a Socio-Psychological aspect, bullying is nothing more than someone that does not know how, nor understand how to cope with certain things in their life, thusly they become bullies, by doing this they feel better about themselves thinking that if they can "bully" someone smaller- as to which is usually the case- then they fool themselves, and others- a more often than not- into believing that they are better than the other person and they don't have anything wrong. Bullying is something that has been a part of human -socio-balance for thousands of years, and believe it or not if you look hard enough you can even see it on a more subtle manner with-in works places.

I hope this helps.

Bullying needs to be stopped, it's destroying the world. Also, racism is another form of bullying that needs to stop. I know how bad bullying can be because I've been bullied a lot. In middle school it wasn't just students but also the principal, vice principal, and both councilors. Now in high school some students still bully me but it's not as bad. All the bullying leads to really bad psychological effects and can make people snap. Look at all the school shootings lately, it's been even noted by the FBI that the shooters felt they had been bullied. I believe that bullying is one of the main causes for school shootings and other violence aimed at schools. If bullying is stopped I think school shootings would stop too. We all need to reach out to those that have been bullied so we can help them and also help make their lives better. By reaching out we can save lives. Love and acceptance is what will save the world. Lets all unite to put a stop to bullying in all forms including racism.

People are cruel and always have been. The reason it happens more in high school is because the stakes are lower and it is easy to get away with. But if you are an adult and bully, the stakes are higher (you lose your job, you get arrested etc.) People have always been cruel since the beginning of time...the only difference between the generations is in how it is expressed.

For Aeons, human beings have had to establish "territory" and "dominance" over others. This was a key to survival. This meant that men who had lots of territory and showed dominance, got all the "good' women, and all the good hunting and gathering, later farming area, that they could get. Bullies exist because people still allow themselves to be bullied. Bullies cease to exisit when you fight back.
