The best thing to do is set a budget with your partner. That way, neither of you go overboard, or even worse, neither of you look cheap!

Like some of the other people have mentioned here, I think setting up a budget is a good idea.

I don't think there's anything ever wrong with spending what you think is appropriate on someone you have strong feelings for.

But in the case of a new relationship, I know sometimes money can be an issue and if you end up spending more than the other person, there may be a feeling of resentment between both parties.

i dont think its how much money you spend its the thought that counts. its a good time to start listeneing for hints on what he wants. if you feel comfortable spending a large amount, go ahead. but its isnt completely necessary. he is going to be more surprised if your able to find him a gift he likes and wants. for example, if he is a car guy he might mention he wants a tool or something for his car. if hes into music or plays guitar, get him things related to that. strings, music books, etc. if hes hard to shop for then a nice sweater and collogne is always an easy way to go. as far as the sweater goes, he would never know the value of it. you could go to the mall and spend like 50-75 bux easy on one or go to walmart and maybe spend 20.
heres another idea that i did for my boyfriend when we first met and it was soo cute. buy a gift bag and put multiple things in it. buy a couple dvds for you guys to watch. i bought a nfl throw blanket, hot chocolate gift set with the two mugs, and i threw in little holiday themed things to munch on. it was a gift bag for us to enjoy together. he really liked it. you can use ur imagionation and throw in anything. like a gift card for dinner for you two. holiday boxers, collogne, slippers, anything.... i hope that helps..

it really doesnt matter on the money it really matters about the quality

say if ur partner gave you a cd or something that you really wanted for a long time but you couldnt find it and you gave ur partner jewelry that is worth 3 times as much then they should be about equal in value

the trick is to get something that has a lot of thought behind it. think about what they enjoy doing. such as music or movies.or even reading. it is not the cost of the gift but the thought put into it
