My favourite remedy for a tickly cough is the following:
Juice of one lemon
The same quantity in honey
Hot water
Fresh grated ginger (or powdered if you can't find fresh)
a shot of brandy

The lemon gives you Vitamin C which reduces the time taken to get rid of your cold and it also gets rid of harmful bacteria and cleanses you of toxins
The honey is soothing for your throat
The hot water kills the germs
The ginger warms up your chest
The brandy helps you sleep without coughing all night

Put the ingredients in a pint glass to allow plenty of room for the hot water and try to drink it all whilst hot.

You will find you sweat a bit after drinking it but 3 of those should do the trick and get rid of your cough

This is pretty disgusting but does work, boil an onion and a large spoon of honey in water until the onion is really soft, let the water go cold then drink it, an old remedy my mother-in-law swore by and I use myself if I have a tickly cough.

My doctor's recommendation:

Crush a package of peppermint candies and put them in a jar. Cover the mix with Jack Daniels whiskey. Put the lid on and shake. Set it on the counter and shake it every time you pass it until the candy dissolves. Pour in some honey and shake it up. Only need a sip to still a cough.

Sounds like an allergy local honey will help build immunity, plenty to begin and then every so often after.
I get this occasionaly and it can feel like I'm choking at times I have to drink as much water as I can before bed to keep it at bay. Drinking plenty of water is the key, it helps me loads, when I have these bouts.

a good sqeeze of lemon, a tablespoon of honey plus sugar to taste if necessary. Then stir in hot water, allow to stand for thirty seconds and add whisky (or similar spirit)

The lemon acts as a decongestant, the Honey soothes the throat and the whisky helps kill any bacteria in the throat (plus it helps you forget any pain and sleep if you put enough in !!!)

A good gargle with soluble asprin in warm water beforehand also helps.

Honey and a lemon juice in a thyme herbal tea (try to find real dried thyme, not a tea bag, it will be more effective).
