I don't think it will hurt her as there are perverts and abusive people in every city of the world and until they do their heinous acts, no one can identify who they will be. Oprah is a good and decent human being and opened this school for all the right reasons. When the perpetrators are weeded out and brought to justice, then the girls in this school will have an advantage they might not have been able to have prior to the school opening.

Wick, the first hing is that as a South African, I understand this problem. A person is raped every three minutes in South Africa, and unfortunately it is usually a black South African who is the perpetrator, and the victims are black/white coloured/Indian. There is no one safe from rape.

I don't think it will hurt Oprah as a celebrity and the wonderful contribution she has made to South Africa. Although I do think she should have built three schools, which are desperately needed, with the money she invested in this school.

Choosing a black principal, was not a good idea, given, she should have been aware of the statistics on rape and corruption present in South Africa. And the Stats., show the ethnic group who are responsible. Again, black dorm overseers should have been chosen from the white community, under the guidance of the Gauteng School Board.

That too would have been a wise move toward racial integration, rather than going the "exclusivity way", which is just apartheid in reverse.

I'm not anti black, in any way, I am involved very much in helping the situation on Zimbabwe. But the facts speak for themselves. If you all want to get a better "handle" on the problems there go to :-" www.mweb.co.za", and also check into "The Sunday Times South Africa" newspaper. It may help understand the problems.

I am also very keen, to get involved in helping house, AIDS orphans. But again, funding is always the problem.

It won't hurt Oprah's career because she had no way of knowing something like this would happen. Who would? She got on a plane & went directly to South Africa. I applaud her for that. Thank goodness the man is in police custody.

It won't hurt her career, but it's bound to have hurt her heart deeply. She knows what it's like to be the victim of abuse. She was only wanting to provide a good future for those girls. I'm sure Oprah will do all she can to try to help the girls, as they are dealing with this abuse.

She would desire to save it open, and save the subject public. understanding will help, and he or she will't in simple terms supply up. There would desire to be background exams, yet i assumed I heard that there have been and it befell besides. She would desire to discover out how this would have been a possibility and appropriate it, which i'm specific that she is doing. Therapists on the college in all possibility does not harm as nicely.

no of course not , how would Oprah know that someone was a pedafile, if there was nothing in their personnel records.

If anything I think particularly in south africa , people realize she wasn't going to let this one slide by, that she walks her walk and talks her talk. Afterall Oprah herself was sexually assault in pre-adolescence, she gets that that is devastating to a young girl's self-esteem and trust in authority figures.

I think that Oprah will be ok. I am deeply sorry that this has hurt her or any of the girls she was trying so hard to help and protect. These "things" that harm innocent children arent human, they are monsters and should be treated as such.

Why, she didn't do anything to cause it.
And as soon as she found out about it things were quickly taken care of. As a person who had been abused and raped in her life, she is well away of the tramma that it can cause to the victims, and I'm sure she will get them any and all counselling they need. The person has been identified and arrested and will be delt with accordingly.

There has been several news stories about teachers being arrested for molesting students in overseas schools. Sadly two male Cdn teachers were arrested this week for molesting their very young male students in Asia.

It sickens me. A lot of freaks get an ESL certification and head overseas for this specific purpose. The children are so trusting and think westerners are wonderful kind people.

I have seen posted on a few ESL forums, "Is it okay to have sex with my students?" You would be shocked at how many other male teachers will reply and say "if she is old enough why not? I do" Its disgusting
