i have to write an essay on 'the importance of sport in a person's life' as Gaeilge.(in Irish) 3 pages. i say thats not possible, i barely even know enough vocab to write an essay. i keep having to use my dictionary for every word i want to write. its ridiculous. i could write ' sport is important in life. it helps you to make friends and feel like you belong to a group. it teaches teamwork. it builds self confidence. it keeps you healthy and fit. it makes you happier.'
thats about all i can think of.
3 pages??! ! i think not!
please help me out here!
my teacher will shriek at me if i write a short essay. is it better to write the required length but a load of nonsense, or a short essay that has everything?

thanks

Teachers usually stress the whole "It's all about quality, not quantity." Maybe try writing it in English first and you may surprise yourself and have 3 pages worth. It's really only one and a half if it's double-spaced.

I've found teachers like a load of bullshit in essays, pretend you know it and it normally works.

You can try some websites like bitesize (www.bbc.co.uk then on education or schools or something ) or another website, maybe your school has a link on its website. They should be able to provide you with a few phrases.

Just go into more detail like aswell of it helps with teamwork then put how that can help in the future getting a job and things. This is the sort of bullshit i mean if you get me.

Put all the important bits and some waffley bits and remeber to get all spelling correct.

Good Luck

Write a few paragraphs about different sports describing the muscles you use
Swimming
Running
Netball
Hockey - on the ground and they do it on horses.
Finish your essay telling how you get camaraderie with your fellow sports people, and how healthy it is to keep fit etc.
That should fill three pages. Write bigger and indent at each paragraph - that will take up some place

Leave one line empty between each paragraph as well
Like this:

.......... I think sport is very good for keeping you fit and the camaraderie with all the other players is excellent for learning about other peoples personalities.

...........Different sports interested different individuals, young women usually play net ball but in America a similar game called basket ball is played by men.

...........So on and so on an so on............................
...................................................................................................

.......... Final paragraph................................etc

Please don't write my example. Put it in your own words. I am only give an example of layout. I only put the dots to emphasis the paragraph. As tab would not work.
Good Luck

Depends on how fast you read. If you are a good reader, you should be able to read about 150 words per minute and still make sense to your audience and also seem natural. So, for an essay that is going to take 8 minutes to read, you should keep it under 1,200 words.

Try mindmapping the subject so that you categorise the information, then use this to structure your essay. Once you have mindmapped the subject, you will probably find that you know a lot more than you thought you did. Try this website for ideas to get you started:

plan it out first, revise some grammar and vocab, emphasise everything and keep going on thats what fills your pages and if you still can't get enough type it out on your computer instead of writing and make your font size bigger
good luck

that is a good start but try to explain more of each of those things you listed. then talk about how many people in this country are obese and how sports keep you fit and strong. you can also talk about how exercising helps cure disease you can also talk about how excersizing helps release anger .

you have the basic ideas. try expanding on what you have towrite a paragraph on each. you could include some examples. you could also include a paragraph on how you think the importance of sport has changed over time.
