What was the influence of the radio in the 1920s?

Writing a report any information would be awesome. Basically what was the influence of the radio during the 1920s.

Radio was much like the Internet - - - a brand new 'toy' that promised to bring entertainment and information into the American home. Many 'eggheads' imagined an enlightened America being exposed to great ideas & culture; learned discussions and classical music & opera. Instead the rado helped spread Jazz & big Band Music and the first great beneficiary of radio was Sports, in those days baseball & boxing kept people glued to their sets and helped to fill bars & taverns (yes, there was Prohibition but that didn't keep people out of taverns & bars)...

At first the sets were primitive. much like early computers- - - many were home made kits and most people listen to static imagining they were picking up signals from whereever. Then as the craze caught on the manufacture & sale of radios became a big industry.

Radio was a novelty in the early twenties but by the late 1920's a common 'nessecity,' by the end of the decade radio was a viable industry for both the making of sets but most importantly as a broadcast industry and a boom for musicians & 'mere' personalities whose vocal prowess made their 'talents' valuable.

By the 1927 the Radio was affecting the box office for silent movies thus pushing the movie industry into developing 'talking pictures.'

Oh and an odd note about Radio - - - it helped break racial barriers. One early show, and yes confess it was made by 'white folks,' but still Amos n' Andy was a popular favorite and not only did millions of 'white' Americans delight in the antics & aspirtions of a pair of '******' but when one storyline had Amos's daughter seriously ill, millions of people were concerned. Yes it was a fictional show but still people connected and were affected by it and it is hard to 'hate' an entire race when you are dabbing tears & fearing for a girl's life even if the girl in question is the imagination of a writer...
Also popular singers sang their way into people's homes and many were of different ethnic & other backgrounds and again people had to 'yield' and accept, among others, Italians and Irish entertainers as being 'human.' Radio and tehn Television does not get enough credit for smashing racial & ethnic hatred.

It was enormous! There was no TV, movies were in their infancy, but radio was the exciting new thing. News could be broadcast instantly. You could listen to popular music. You could listen to radio dramas and comedy shows. It was an all-pervasive influence. In the 20s, radio could honestly be said to have influenced the character of flaming youth and all the razzledazzle that went with it.
