World War II ended in 1946, followed by the baby boom and the Cold War. People bought new cars, new homes, new EVERYTHING. There were a lot of new inventions. Young people rebelled against the ways of their parents. Singers like Elvis Presley helped make rock and roll popular. It wasn't a totally ideal era with the Korean War and the McCarthy hearings, but it was a very interesting decade.

What you are suggesting is merely a matter of opinion. Much of what happened in the 1950s was based on things that occurred in prior times. For example the TV programs of the 1950s were often based on successful radio programs of the 1940s. The music of the 1950s was based on the jazz and blues of the 1940s.
To a large degree the 1950s seemed to be an ideal age because of the wealth accumulated among the middle class during the 1940s and that provided a foundation for individuals to successfully move from the rural areas to the cities.
Was it better? No, just different.

The only thing that immediatedly pops into my head is the fact that the WORLD changed rapidly during and after the second WORLD WAR. It is only logical, since how many people of different countries were all sort of thrown together into different environments?!!!
Imagine, for example the Americans in France, most learning of their music, habits, traditions, etc., for the first time. Then imagine Russia and Germany. Etc.
Did you see "Saving Private Ryan"? While not remembering everything on that particular scene where the American soldiers are sitting around listening to Edith Piaf, I do recall that it seemed so vivid.
Just like that particular scene, there must have been many similar experiences for millions (literally) of young men. America, being a pioneer in so many things could not have done anything less than launch a new modernism in arts, clothing, even speech, I suppose.

The war happened, for one thing. A generation of young Americans went overseas, discovered other cultures, discovered a newer and different lifestyle, and this was reflected when they returned home.
