I know it runs all the time. But recently it kept running fast and loud. I opened the tower and discovered the thing to keep the fan onto the motherboard broke. Its a black plastic square thing and has these metal clips that clip onto it to hold the fan on. Well one thing broke off, and I think this is why the fan keeps coming on. Theres also thermal grease on it.

If I think it to the computer shop Monday, what should I tell them? I get nervous explaining things to people because I end up forgetting what to say lol.

Just tell them the fans running all the time and show them the broken clip. They'll know what to do.

WHAT???? You sound confused. The fan on your tower WILL intermittantly come on. You don't have to program it or anything. It is designed to turn on when the tower is getting too warm. Then once things have cooled, it shuts back off. (This helps to keep the internal components from over heating and mis-functioning).

Maybe you shouldn't have opened your computer tower. You can introduce hair, dust etc. and complicate things. When you open a tower, you must have a dust, hair and magnetic free environment. .................

Take it to the shop, I guess, but if you have problems in the future, take it in to begin with. Its best not to play doctor where you don't have a script pad....

One more note, if your computer freezes constantly, then your fan WILL kick on and run LOUDLY.
See about an anti-virus program. DO you have a virus, do you have too much on a computer with little memory space?
Do you have a poor connection to the internet, or to the rest of the computer set-up? These things must all be factured in... Good Luck!

Print your question and take it to them.

The problem with the broken clips has more to do with the heat sink than the fan. If the heat sink is not in good contact with the CPU, it cannot cool it off properly, and the CPU heats up. This makes the fan run faster.

The shop may be able to replace the clips,
but more likely they will replace the fan and heat sink.

Remember that you asked a question here and explained the problem. Take down notes and explain the same to the technician @ the shop.

Make notes and take them with you. It's easier to think of everything before you get there.
