Getting to know your professors?

The bottom line, most important, no other consideration even comes close -- go to class.

It sounds so simple but you'd be amazed at the number of people who miss 25% or more of a class and then wonder why they failed it.

Next would be to pay attention while you're in class and participate in discussions. You can participate at a higher level if you've read the text that's going to be covered before the class. Again, many of your peers will take classes and never once open the book. Some don't even own the book. And then they wonder why they fail.

Remember too - there are only two classes you never miss under any circumstance. The first day and the day before an exam. Those are the "A" days; they tell you what you have to do to get an A. Every other class might be able to be excused under the right circumstances but these two are essential to your success.

Sit in the "A zone" -- there is a zone in every classroom where people who get As regularly sit. There's a reason for it - some of the reason isn't fair but it's reality. The A zone is in the front center for a couple rows. The D/F zone is in the back of the room, stay out of there.

Always take extra credit when offered. "If y'all go see this play then I'll give you an extra 2 on your final..." then go see the play.

Find the clique of "smart people" - aka nerds. Hang out with them. This group never says "you can do that paper tomorrow, let's party..." instead they say "damn! you're not done with that paper yet - how can I help?"

Getting to know the professor may or may not help - learning the material is what gets the A.

Did I mention, go to class!

Studying 4 hours a day every day of the week including both Saturdays and Sundays.

In some cases, one has to get to know the professors to figure out where they are really coming from.

Sometimes a professor, in a private conversation, will explain what is needed to get a good grade vs omitting that
instruction in front of the entire class.

There is more to life than college.

What happens after college is more important than what happens at college.

Best wishes.

I found it was always being active in class discussions and turning in every assignment and on time. Just about every class is passable just by turning everything in on time. College work is not really that hard, it is the lost points due to poor management of assignments that bring most people down.
