I got my oil changed in my 2003 MIni Cooper today and non synthetic oil was used. I have always changed the oil with the recommended synthetic oil previously. will anything bad happen if i leave the non synthetic in until my next oil change?

The performance tolerances of mineral oil (aka dino[saur] oil) is much lower than synthetic.

If you want to get to the details, your cold starts will be harder on your engine.

I'm not sure why you would put non-synthetic in a Mini as new as yours. But if you want to leave it in, make sure you only drive it no more than 3,000 miles. Do not follow your service indicator because it was programmed with synthetic oil parameters.

Your car was designed to run on synthetic oil. You can use conventional oil, however you will need to change the oil at 3,000 miles. Also, you cannot stress the engine as you normally would. Synthetic oil has superior thermal breakdown properties. Impurities in conventional oil cause deterioration at the molecular level. Synthetic oil is man-made and is nearly perfect on the molecular level. Perfect molecules will not break down as quickly and can take much more abuse.

My recommendation is to have the oil drained as soon as possible and replace it with synthetic oil. You save about $50, but you can damage your engine - not worth it.

Good luck!

Snowie could not have stated it better! Also, do not drive your Mini hard either. The reason why synthetic oil was put in Mini Cooper vehicles was to make the oil changes less frequent and to decrease the wear and heat on the engine.
