You'll need to set up a network with internet sharing capabilities if you want to hook up two computers to the same ISP.

You'll need a router, ethernet cards in BOTH computers, and two more CAT cables. Run a CAT from each computer's ethernet card to the router. Then another CAT from the router to the cable modem.

If you want to go wireless with the laptop, you'll need a wireless router and wireless card in the laptop. You can still hard wire the other computer to a wireless router if you want, or get a wireless card for that one also.

There are a couple of was to do this depending on what features your laptop has.

If your laptop is WIFI capable, then you will need a WIFI router. The cable from your cable modem will go to the router and then another would go to your E-machine. The laptop will detect the router and connect.

If the laptop is to be used in the same room as the tower or is not WIFI compatable, then all you would need is a hub or an internet switch. The connection would be from the modem to the hub/switch and then a cable from the hub/switch to each computer.

It might be a good idea to go to your local Office Depot or Staples and ask a few questions.

Hubs ans switches are not very expensive.
