I can think of a couple of sad songs. I may come up with more later but for now: "Honey" by Bobby Goldsboro from the sixties about a guy remembering his dead wife, "Christmas Shoes" by Alabama about a child trying to buy his dying mom something nice to wear if she "meets Jesus" tonight. They both make me cry.

"Fidelity" by Regina Spektor in my opinion is heartfelt and could be taken as not being able to have someone.
Or "Samson" also by Regina Spektor is heartfelt.

The song is about when Richard Ashcroft (lead singer) lost his dad to cancer.so he decided to go on drugs to ease the pressure on himself but they just made him worse :( great song
