I ve had the same thing a couple of times over the past 30 years. The most recent was yesterday. I don t have a cat, and my fingernails are kept short, and with a shellac manicure, i.e. very smooth. The cuts are so fine you can see them, but when I washed my face I felt minor stinging, I just figured I was getting a deep clean with the anti aging products I use. But when I put on my face serums, that s when I felt the burning, I had to use a 10x magnifying mirror to see these fine scratches. I don t wear jewelry to bed, not even my wedding ring because in the past, I thought it was my jewelry scratching me. It happened a few times when I was in my late teens, once or twice in the last decade, and yesterday.... It s perplexing. It s not bad dreams, I am not scratching myself, I don t have a cat, and I don t drink (so it s not alcohol related) I honestly think it s some kind of spider or other bug, just looking for logical possibilities.

The papercut scratches are really small and if there was any kind of attack on you (paranormal or not) those scratches wouldn't be so tiny. My guess would be that you just have regular scratches from a dream you may have had.
But with the probability, I would also keep in mine that there's a possibility that in this time of year, your skin just might be chapped and have cracked over night.

Do you have sharp fingernails? Do you also have a mosquito bite there? It could have been you were scratching that. Or, another bug could have been on you and you were trying to get it away. Did you have a pimple or bump that you were scratching? If it had been on your back or somewhere you couldn't reach to do it yourself...I'd say there was a possibility of it being something paranormal. I wouldn't worry about it unless it happens again. If it does...come back and tell us.

Perhaps you scratched yourself while sleeping. Perhaps something else scratched you (i.e. a cat). Perhaps you scratched yourself last night and didn't realize it. There are a lot of possibile causes that would need to be eliminated before you should even consider a paranormal explanation.
Ah, joined up just to ask one question and then disappeared. Hmmm.

I have the exact same thing. It's been bothering me for years, not knowing. Just got it diagnosed: it's the Herpes virus! Different strain than what causes cold sores on lips, but same virus. Sometimes appears as a rash somewhere on the body. Usually brought on by stress. Nothing you can do about it, except reduce stress in your life, or get an over-the-counter herpes medication to cut the healing time down by a few days. So happy I finally know what it is- people have been blaming my cat for years, but I knew it wasn't him.

Lots of ghosts scratch people.
1. Cut your nails.
2. Set up a tape recorder before you got sleep.
3. Play it back in the morning
4. Or spend a night in a motel room & see if there's change.

Are the scratches random or does it follow the shape of fingers? I don't feel it was paranormal. I find myself wanting to tell you to check your nails, that one or two may have jagged edges. If it was paranormal, you'd notice more than just those scratches. You'd have been haunted all night long, attacked in other ways that would have left no doubt in your mind as to the origin of those scratches.

You could have bed bugs or mites or horrible nasties living on your bed. My mom kept feeding these stray cats and whenever I visited her, I'd come home all itchy and one time I woke up with like straight scratch marks all over my arms and legs. That was that. I went over to her place and rounded up the strays and sent them packing to the shelter. I never had a problem with scratches after I washed everything but everything in her place as well as mine.
Peace
