My modem keeps on disconnecting and will then constantly try to re establish a connection but only remains "ready" for about 5-10 seconds and then reverts to "idle" mode before again trying to connect. Tiscali reckon there is no problem at their end.

I keep uninstalling and reinstalling the modem and sometimes this works for a week or so, sometimes for a couple of hours and other times not at all.

Is it possible for a modem to "wear out"? I know that sounds stupid but I've had it for two years and it's been brilliant. I have no new Hardware or Software, so there is no other reason for it to suddenly start playing up.

Any ideas or help will be very much appreciated.

Sounds like youre loosing train which is probably due to a weak DSL signal. Make sure all phones are filtered and, if you have a security alarm or cable box that plugs into a phone jack, that they are filtered too. Call your ISP and have them test your DSL.
