Anyone here read the news? Around the world, honey bee are disappearing. This will have a negative impact considering the fact that honeybees pollinate a third of our food, including almost all fruits and vegetables.

They're not slowly disappearing, it's happening very fast. There are many bee diseases and parasites which have been known to beekeepers since we started keeping the little critters. Populations get decimated and then a strain resistant to the infection takes over. The real problem is that wild (feral) hives are disappearing, probably due to a yet undiagnosed infestation. Nature will take care of it, but we can't be sure that the strain which survives, will be compatible with the needed traits for domestic bees. Africanized bees, for example are resistant to many of the known diseases, but they're very difficult to manage in urban and semi-urban environments as they're so agressive.

unless we find a way to fight the virus that is killing them, they may become extinct
