Im a Yankee fan, I think they should have used the money to sign a younger player, such as Andrew Jones. I think it was a mistake to pick up the 1 years option. I hope they dont make a bigger mistake and sign an extension. Free up that money for the future.

I don't know that Andruw Jones is the answer but Abreu is definitely isn't. If anything the Yankees need to sign better pitchers.

No they didn't make a mistake for this reason. The Yankees pretty much have unlimited pockets. All they are doing by keeping Abreu is spending money, and $16 million more or less isn't going to break the bank, plus they didn't have to trade anyone. By keeping Abreu, it gives the Yankees 2 options: 1 keep him, it's only for 1 year anyway and 2 it's someone they can use in a trade later on, if they need to.

As for Andrew Jones, Scott Boras is his agent also, and doesn't look like the Yankees will deal with any of his clients anytime soon.

Well I see your point, but Andruw Jones is no spring chicken I believe he is 31 going on 32. Also Abreu is a much better hitter than Andruw Jones, while he may not be a better fielder Abreu is no slouch. Lastly they are trying to free up money by not giving A-Rod a ridiculous contract. The Yankees will be fine. Plus if they signed Andruw Jones what would you do with Melky Cabrera a good young left fielder. Save money where you can 1 year at 18 million dollars doesnt hurt your pocket that much if your the Yankees.

Jones had an absolutely terrible year at the plate and is a over-priced question mark as a free agent. The Yankees will get younger on the mound, but there will be a critical need for established every-day players like Abreu in what will be a transition season in many ways for the organization.

How many times have we heard the words "Yankees" and "mistake" in the same sentence over the past month? LOL

If it's the one thing the Yankees have, it's money! Be more worried about the roster spot they may or may not have "wasted". Just because they signed someone, doesn't mean they can't trade them. Although he may be a 5/10 guy now, which will make that more difficult!

Are you kidding me? We lost 54 homers and 150 RBIs. It is only logical to sign Abreu's 16 HRs 101 RBIs. Plus he is quite fast for a hefty man and he is great on the bases. His plate discipline is also something to behold. He is one of the best 2-strike hitters in the game. Good decision.

I dont think you have relized this, Jones is 30/31 years old. So a 1 or two year difference isnt a big one. Do you still think he's 25?

Besides, Andruw bat like what, .240 last year? He just 'aint the same as he was in 2005. Done.
