I am in the fey forest and have found the gate at the southwest corner, but can't open it or find out how to get through it. I am completely stuck. I have even gone back to other towns to try and get tips, but cant find any. Can someone give me a hint or show me the way?

The Gigas gate, right? Well, Belias is a Gigas, so you need to summon him, and he can open the gate.

Did you go to the different shrines and activate them? You have to do that before you can summon Belias to get to Giruvegan. When they're activated you should see a little "!" on the area map (not the one in the corner, the other one). You may have to go to different ones -- they're not in order -- and I believe you have to kill the nearby enemies (i.e. the Behemoths) in order to activate them. Don't worry, there's a gate crystal once you get inside. I *strongly* recommend you save once you get inside. :)

you gotta summon belias and approach the gate and or touch it and he'll open it for you
