I shop weekly and only buy what I need. If money is really tight, I'll figure-out how much I have to spend on groceries and not go over that. Those weeks are usually full of meals that keep repeating themselves :-P

I grocery shop very differently than others. I do keep a list on the fridge but its sort of a reverse list.
I made a master list of things that I commonly buy from the store and its seperated into sections on a spreadsheet. When I'm running low of something I circle it on the list under that department of the store, that way when I'm in that section of the store I know I purchased everything I need. This ensures I'm in and out of the grocery store in the quickest amount of time possible.
Usually I grocery shop biweekly and I shop according to that schedule. But I do make the occasional stop at the store during the week for milk and bread. I do not usually have a limit for groceries. My bills and my groceries come first, then the rest of the money I have left goes towards "play time".

I read the answers and don't understand this grocery shopping business talk.
I cook about once a month, package and freeze a lot
There is no set time to shop for groceries.
If I still have several meals on hand, I wait a little longer.
I buy in bulk, freeze just about everything especially with sale items or those that are seasonal.
I get my baked goods and bread from Pepperidge Farms outlet store usually every three months
We have often been seen picking our own fruits and vegetables
Oh yes, a word about garage sales.
Yes we do go to them and have purchased many things for pennies on the dollar. I have furnished a whole house doing this
The more often I shop the more tempted I am to do that dreaded impulse shopping.
I buy groceries at the grocery store.
This means there are no magazines, make up, 100 kinds of sodas and drinks (I stick to the basics). You will never see a dozen or more cleaning products, over packaged grocery items, school supplies, candles, motor oil, a/c filters. Lottery tickets are a no no.
So I guess it sounds like we are just the bare essentials kind of family. Quite the contrary. Because I am a very careful shopper we are able to go out for a nice dinner weekly and take two vacations a year.
There is no sacrificing in this family. Just good common sense and time management

I usually do a big shopping once a month and then replenish through out the week.
I am a list person, I made a template to break everything down frozen foods, cans, fruits and veggies etc. And I also have a limit, but I always seem to go over by at least 30-40 bucks.

I try to restock the big stuff and things that keep well (ie, canned goods) once a month or less often if possible, but as far as fresh vegetables, perishables etc... I have to go at least weekly, but try to keep it not much more than weekly. We do live a ways out of town, so I keep an ongoing list and try to get it while I am in town anyway. I also spend less keeping to a list than just trying to remember what we needed (less time and less $).

Weekly. I shop by internet, and I'm pretty haphazard. No, I don't use a list or a limit. Although I try to keep it down. Most UK shoppers do it by the week.
But in South AFrica, I used to shop once a month. Most of us did. With top ups for fruit and vegetables, etc.
