I spent 6 weeks over in Austin, Texas to give my uncle a kidney. He lives there but is from scotland. Everyone I met was very nice, friendly and wanted to know all about me. I would move over to the US to stay if I could. Well, to Austin anyway. I love the US and the people were lovely. So I don't hate you!

I don't think anyone hates the American people in the UK. A lot of people (but not all) don't like certain things about the government. I think that Americans are seen in a lot of European countries as arrogant and convinced that whatever they do in America is the right way to do things and that America is the best country in the world. Its great that people love their country but you have to understand that I really love MY Country and I think my country is the best country in the world and neither is wrong (it's an opinion and subjective not a fact). I think that things said like American football is the best upsets some people because the one thing the English have is their history and how old things are and America has innovation and newness. The culture is quite different because it really goes against the English culture to 'boast' or carry on so the arrogance is probably a misunderstanding. I think that with many its some Americans that cause the dislike when I was in paris I heard Americans saying that you could not drink the water there and also some Americans travel to Europe and expect it to be like America its not and the Europeans are proud of their heritage. I think if some Americans who travel where a bit more understanding and accepting that Europe is not America nor does it want to be it might be easier. It is often easier for us living in the UK to be a bit more aware of how to act in foreign countries as its so close and cheap to travel to Europe many of us go a few times a year from childhoos. That said I work with Americans who are perfectly lovely. Although Bush is really not popular here I don't think its Americans themselves at all and you will get treated well if you behave well.

I don't think they'll like us more just bc he's black - i think it's more about the fact that we've evolved so much as a nation to the point that we COULD elect a black president. It symbolizes change. Other country's view us as hypocrites, a nation that doesn't live up to the ideals we hold so dear. We say anyone can become ANYTHING, but we've had male white presidents for our entire existence - until now. And some country mentioned that for the last 20 years we've had either a Bush or a Clinton in office, but everyone's supposed to be equal and have an equal shot at greatness here. We've been a nation of contradictions and the fact that we elected a dark skinned man whose father was from Kenya, who came from ordinary beginnings as our president shows that we're growing and changing and becomming the America we're supposed to be. EDIT- I voted for him bc he wants to reform healthcare - and i think it needs to be reformed bc i pay tooo much; bc i agree w his economic policies, i don't think the middle class should be paying more taxes in this economy; and i think we're spending way too much money on this war. Why are we rebuliding Iraq when we could be rebuilding New Orleans or spending the money helping people here? I'm pro choice, most Republicans aren't and most of them want to continue spending money in Iraq instead of investing in the US.

No we don't hate you and nor does the rest of the world just some crazies. I personally like Americans - the ones I've met are nice people. I do not care for George Bush or the Republican party but nor do the Americans I meet. The primitives who hate America hate the west in general.

Peace.

American - mmmm! Speaking personally - I like all the colonists that left the motherland and set out on the great adventure over the pond! More room for us left here!
Seriously - your nation has lots of great attributes and since you now are 5 or 6 times the size of the UK population, I don't know why you should concern yourself with our opinions. Or anyone elses! To be frank, it's the power of the USA that troubles people but that power is also our strength and Europe's strength. You are disliked because of that very power and strength. But the people that dislike you, would have the rest of the world in their power if they could. So it is envy rather than dislike. As for individuals, we like you coming to our country and seeing it. Just don't come looking for your family tartan.

Generally i quite like American people, they are amongst the most polite, kind and friendly people in the world (despite what Jeremy Clarkson would have us believe).

The only ones i do hate are the ones who shout "WOOOOO!!! USA! USA! USA!" The ones who are very brash and don't respect other cultures. You get these sorts in every country so don't think it's just Americans.

I don't hate Americans. Couldn't stay in their company too long without wanting to give history lessons, lessons in manners, people skills, tact, modesty etc but no I don't hate them. I pity them if anything, they have a lot of power and are still not happy with themselves. It's a fake, plastic world to live in.

Everyone is different so you cant say you hate a whole nation over the actions of a few individuals. I like to give everyone a chance :)

Not at all. We realise you have some really dodgy leaders though. Our leaders are also disliked the world over.
