And apparently some guys use the line "you can't get pregnant the first time..."

If you are producing eggs and you get sperm in your vagina, you CAN get pregnant.

if your body is relatively normal, you ovulate 14 days before your period starts - that's also day 14 after, if you have 28-day cycles. Sperm might survive in a friendly environment for up to 5 days, so generally day 9 to 19 are "not safe".

But!!!! - Stress can alter your periods. You can ovulate randomly sometimes. Some women here will tell you of getting pregnant any "wrong time" during their cycle - unlikely, but it happens. So relying on "safe days" is not safe, if a pregnancy would really wreck your life, or you are dead set against abortion.

Actually, your friend got it backwards. Just before and during your period is probably the safest time.

You have to be ovulating and then when you have sex, you can become pregnant. Depending on how long or short your cycle is, this could be anytime. If you keep track of your cycles and they are regular, you'll have a rough idea of when you ovulate.
Most women ovulate mid-cycle but this is just a general thing, it may not be true for you.

No, in fact, it is the worst time to conceive. The best time is while ovulating, and this usually occurs 1.5 to 2 weeks after the date your last period ended. You can buy an ovulation test kit at the store, they are with the home pregnancy tests. This will tell you your best days to conceive per month. Good luck.

1st "PMS" is pre menstrual syndrome. meaning before your period. So you don't PMS on your period, you may or may not have PMS before your period.
2nd your chances of conceiving while menstruating are much lower, though still possible.
Your greatest chance of becoming pregnant are days 10 through 20. Day 1 being the first day of your period.
Ultimately you can conceive at anytime.

there are only a few days in the month which u can get pregnant.

its like in the middle

the egg only lives about 24- 48 hours

but sperm can live inside the women for up to 7 days
